Honey is known for having natural healing properties but new guidance suggests it should be the first thing you reach for when it comes to treating coughs and colds when winter arrives this year.
New guidance from Public Health England (PHE) and The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is urging doctors to recommend honey as the 'first point of call' for coughs.
A drink of honey mixed with lemon and hot water is a common go-to when it comes to soothing sore throats and a runny nose. Add some cinnamon or turmeric to increase the benefits.
Honey will relieve sore throats and coughs and have an antibacterial effect. Lemon contains lots of vitamin C, which may also shorten the duration a cold in some people. Cinnamon is a powerful immune booster and turmeric has plenty of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.
It is all about self care this winter!
